My Experience with Mary Kay Products

As some of you might know, I have an Instagram dedicated to my YouTube channel. That Instagram got a good a mount of followers pretty quickly. One day a little after I posted, I received a comment from someone who is a Mary Kay representative asking if I would like to test out some products. I've never tried anything from Mary Kay, so I was curious and direct messaged her. We just talked about my skin type and our love for makeup. After about a week or so after talking to her, I received an envelope that had some samples in it. I had received this while I was away, so I had to wait a couple of days to try everything out.

Before I start reviewing the products, I want to say that I am very thankful to be able to receive these. All of these opinions are my own - positive or negative. I don't want to come off as mean or rude, but I want to be real with all of you and share my 110% complete honest thoughts.

When I opened the envelope, there was a catalog inside and when I opened the catalog there were sampled taped to the products.

One little bummer was the 3-in-1 cleanser and moisturizer exploded. I'm assuming that it got squished while in the mail. A long with those two items, I also got a charcoal mask, three eyeshadows (the colors are Moonstone, Sweet Plum, and G), a foundation and a lip color.

Let's start out with all the skin care, shall we? I really liked the charcoal masks, those have been one of my favorite things lately. My skin felt amazing after using it. The cleanser was nice, it wasn't my favorite. I wasn't a huge fan of the moisturizer. I felt like it had a weird rosy scent, which I don't like scented moisturizers for my face. Like I said above, the cleanser and moisturizer exploded, so I couldn't really get that much use out of them. But I got what I could.

Next up, we have the makeup. This is where the hot mess begins. When I first saw the foundation, it was matte.. I have dry skin, really dry skin. Matte foundation is my enemy. I received the Timewise Matte-Wear Liquid Foundation. The foundation applied ok, it had a matte powdery finish. It clinged to every dry patch of skin that was on my face. The foundation also had this weird scent, again kind of like rosy. Overall, the foundation didn't oxidize or break me out. I just really hated the finish and scent. In the picture, you can really see how it clings to the dry patches around my nose.

Now on to the eyes. Boy oh boy. I'll start off by saying these colors swatched really nicely. That's about it though. These colors where a nightmare to apply. They wouldn't blend and got really patchy when I applied them to my eyes. If you use these, you shouldn't use a brush. If I could do it again, I would've just used my finger. They're just a nightmare to blend out. The shadows I received were the mineral eye shadows in Granite (a gray color), Moonstone (an off white) and Sweet Plum (a plum shade).

Last is the lip color. I got the Gel Semi Matte Lipstick in Midnight Red. The formula was eh. Didn't love it, didn't hate it. It was the color that I didn't like. I go for more blue toned reds, this isn't that. It wasn't very pigmented, but the color is very buildable.

For the look I created I used Sweet Plum all over the lid and lower lash line, Granite in the crease and Moonstone as a brow bone and inner corner highlight. For the lips I used the Gel Semi Matte Lipstick in Midnight Red. I can't really remember what else I used for the rest of my face, but I'm almost positive that I used the Carli Bybel palette as a highlight.
