MY FITNESS JOURNEY | First Update
Welcome back to my blog!
If you read my New Year, New Me blog post, I talked about some goals that I have set for myself. One of the goals that I had set was to tone my stomach and to feel comfortable in a crop top by the summer. After I had written the blog, I had a doctors appointment. It was just a check up, nothing serious. She told me during my check up that I needed to start working out. She didn't say it in a bad or mean way, it was something I knew I needed to do anyway. Hearing my doctor say it, gave me that extra push that I needed.
It's been about a month since I started my fitness journey and I really want to share some updates with all of you. I want to share my progress because 1. it kind of holds me accountable to working out and 2. maybe this could help someone. Someone who needs that extra push and isn't sure where to start.
On January 10, I went to Walmart and bought myself a Simply Fit Board. I kept seeing those dang things on the tv and thought they looked so fun! That's why I chose that, because it looked fun and looked like something that I would enjoy. That's step number one in figuring out your fitness journey, find something that you think you'll like. If you like going to the gym and lifting weights, then go to the gym. If you like dance and zumba type exercises, find some dance or zumba classes. Another reason why I chose the Simply Fit Board is because it's affordable. It was $30 for the board, a DVD and a little booklet.
Since I got the board, every workout that I do concentrates on a different area on the body. Monday and Friday really focus on the arms and back, Tuesdays and Thursdays focus on the abs and legs, and Wednesday is legs and glutes. Monday, Wednesday and Friday are my favorite days to workout. Monday and Friday, the workouts are just so much more relaxed in my opinion. Wednesday and squats and squats are my favorite. Since it's only been a month, I haven't seen major changes to my body yet. Hopefully within the second month, that'll change.
Now onto food. Food is something that I dreaded A LOT when I started this journey because I am the pickiest eater ever. That's something that I'm doing in baby steps. It's easier. One thing that I've been doing is eating smaller portions. Tacos for example, they're my favorite. Before I could eat 3-4 in one sitting. Now, I eat one and have something on the side. Most of the time that something on the side is a salad.
What I eat in a day is something like this:
- Breakfast- I'll have a Chobani Flip Greek Yogurt. It's not the best thing, but baby steps. If I don't have yogurt, I'll have a piece of toast, scrambled eggs with some onions and hot sauce on top.
- Lunch- A majority of my lunches have been a salad with some oil and vinegar. Recently, I've been adding some onion powder and pepper. It's so yummy! If we're out of lettuce, I'll make a sandwich or grilled cheese. For something crunchy on the side, I'll have celery or carrots.
- Dinner- Dinner is always different. Sometimes I'll just have a side my mom made, like rice, stuffing or mac and cheese along with a salad. Other times, I'll have a piece of chicken, a side & carrots or celery. It really depends. It's different everyday.
I also drink a lot of water through out the day. I have an infuser water bottle that I put lemon, lime and mint in. I try to drink four of those a day - one in the morning, two in the afternoon (normally one with lunch and another while I'm at work) and one with dinner. I also drink one bottle of water while I work out.
Last, the one thing I do NOT do is weigh myself. Why? Because I know how I get with numbers. I'll go crazy. I'll become obsessed with losing weight. Also, seeing that number will ruin my mood. I know that if I get crazy with numbers, I'll get stressed out. Then the stress will make me not want to eat and I'll lose weight the unhealthy way. I don't want that. So I just don't weigh myself.
Like I said, I'm doing this to hold myself accountable. I also hope that these help someone out. Someone who needs that extra little push or doesn't really know where to start. Make sure you check out my vlog channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmf2Jn5poxXmzDQviLB-2YA
